Nearly 96% of households in Nagaland are now covered under state and central health insurance schemes, according to Dr. Kikameren LKR, Joint CEO of the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS). Speaking at a seminar in Kohima, Dr. Kikameren detailed that the state's coverage includes the central PM-JAY scheme, a dedicated Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) providing up to INR 20 lakh annually for government employees and pensioners, and a sub-scheme for the general "missing middle" population. While the state government heavily subsidizes these premiums and has empanelled numerous accredited hospitals both inside and outside Nagaland to ensure quality cashless treatment, budget constraints currently limit the coverage strictly to inpatient care rather than expanding to outpatient (OPD) services.
